“Walking with Grace” To Find a Cure for Arthritis

IMG_1611

The 2016 Walk to Cure Arthritis took place last week in Los Angeles on the South Lawn of Exposition Park. Helping heighten awareness and garner support for this well-attended event was Foothill’s very own eighth grader, Gracie Lewis.

Diagnosed two years ago with juvenile arthritis, Gracie, 14, was appointed this year “Youth Honoree” for the Arthritis Foundation of Greater Los Angeles. Gracie enlisted a team of walkers, calling the effort Walking with Grace. “I chose that name because it’s not only my name, but the message is also found in Hebrews 12:1 that says, ‘let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.’”

“Medical Honoree,” Dr. Samy Metyas, a FCS dad and Covina-based specialist in arthritis, has strongly supported the Arthritis Foundation over the past 13 years: “Research is making a huge difference, as evidenced by huge advances in the treatment of arthritis, lupus, gout, and similar conditions. Funding research is a major emphasis of the foundation’s work.

“Fifteen years ago, we didn’t have the benefit of new medicines available today. Research and new treatments are helping kids get back to normal lives,” Metyas said.

Online giving day is TODAY! We need 100% participation from FCS families to reach our goal. Your student is coming home with a red bracelet on his/her wrist to remind you to go online and give today! Link in profile. 18,000 hearts were glued together in the last 36 hours for one of our exhibit installations! Hats off to our 50+ volunteers who made it happen. This installation captures the beauty of community, a compilation of unique individuals (i.e. hearts) coming together as a whole. We are all made by God, in His image, therefore each and every person is valuable. Imagine if we treated everyone with that in mind! Visit the exhibit next Thursday and Friday to see more. @oneschoolsresponse We’re a little over a week away for Foothill’s largest event of the year!
