Getting the Most Out of Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences are just around the corner. Some of you are excited for the opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher for an engaging, productive conversation; while others, for whatever reason, may look at the opportunity with trepidation. I hope you fall into the former category. In either case, parent-teacher conferences are a time to build a positive working relationship with your child’s teacher. After all, we are all on the same team. Our objective is to provide your child with a Christ-centered education in a nurturing environment. So, here are a few tips to get the most out of the time you have during conferences.

  • Pray before you come to the conference; pray for your child’s teacher and class. Pray for wisdom, peace, and good health. Pray that the remainder of this year will be an awesome experience for everyone.
  • Download your child’s grades before arriving or view them on RenWeb. This will give you a general picture of how your child is performing.
  • Talk to your child before you attend the conference. What do they like about school? What do they feel they are doing well? Do they have any concerns?
  • During the conference, be an active listener. Clarify any information you find unclear.
  • Share your insights with the teacher. Are there things the teacher should know about your child? Tell the teacher something your child really enjoys about their class. Share any concerns you may have.
  • Be mindful of the teacher’s time. Conference times are scheduled in fifteen- minute increments. Being on time and recognizing the need for the teacher to bring closure at the end will help make their day flow more smoothly. If you need additional time, please feel free to schedule a follow up meeting.
  • Finally, bring a pencil and notepad with you. Jot down notes that will enable you to assist your child at home.

Working with your child is a privilege that we have as teachers. Our desire is to see each and every child grow both spiritually and academically. We look forward to the opportunity to work with you and set a plan in motion for your child’s continued success.

Parent Teacher Conferences are January 29 & 30

Online giving day is TODAY! We need 100% participation from FCS families to reach our goal. Your student is coming home with a red bracelet on his/her wrist to remind you to go online and give today! Link in profile. 18,000 hearts were glued together in the last 36 hours for one of our exhibit installations! Hats off to our 50+ volunteers who made it happen. This installation captures the beauty of community, a compilation of unique individuals (i.e. hearts) coming together as a whole. We are all made by God, in His image, therefore each and every person is valuable. Imagine if we treated everyone with that in mind! Visit the exhibit next Thursday and Friday to see more. @oneschoolsresponse We’re a little over a week away for Foothill’s largest event of the year!
