Decidedly Academic. Distinctively Christian.

DR Trip 2 | DAY 1

Day one is complete with nothing but good things to report. The plane travel went as smooth as possible, and getting through customs was a success.

We had a minor hang up with the turkeys and hams that the students had in their carry-ons when we were about 15 yards from getting picked up from the airport. With the finish line of our travel day in sight, we were stopped by the Dominican Agricultural Department that told us we couldn’t bring the food items through. After a little bit of pleading, reassurance, and persuasion- the turkeys and hams have arrived safely. Crisis averted.

Check-in at the hotel went smoothly, followed by a little relaxing dip in the Caribbean Ocean and food in our bellies.
The students have unpacked all of their bags and donations. We were overwhelmed by the generosity and over abundance of clothes, toys, candy, shoes, bracelets, hygiene products, school supplies, and hats we were able to bring. Let’s put it this way… we could probably give a baseball hat to every person in El Tamarindo. God is good.

Successful end of first day. To say we are excited to go to the foundation tomorrow is an understatement. The students are eager to meet some of the new faces who will capture their hearts, showing them little glimmers of what it’s like to love without boundaries.

Blessings and thanks for your prayers.

Your blog post captures the excitement and passion of Foothill’s DR trip – commitment to share joy, hope and help – and proves that the arm of God is very long and can reach across a continent to bless others.

Praising God that they have arrived safely! Excited to hear what each day brings. God is so good and cares about even the smallest of details, like turkeys and hams, so awesome!!

Thanks for giving us a “peek” into your Mission Trip to the Dominican Republic. As I read your post I could envision the 2013DR group frolicking in the ocean on that first day! Jordan and I are grateful for the experiences that we had during our time there. Thank you Mr. Gaines for pouring God’s love into those precious children in the DR and our precious children at FCS!
