Decidedly Academic. Distinctively Christian.
Hola! On day two in the Dominican Republic we went to two schools and performed for the young children. The children were so happy to see us. We read Bible stories to the classes. Both of the schools were very poor and small. These schools were about one fourth the size of our classrooms. This made us appreciate our large school and space. Also they didn’t have many pencils or paper. One class had one notebook for the whole class. We sang songs and did puppet shows from the Bible. The kids loved it and were very involved in it. Then we went back to the foundation and played with the kids. We also served them lunch. Then all of the girls had a “Sister Circle.” Mikayla Arena and Emily Reynolds shared their testimonies with all the girls. After they shared their testimonies we painted the girls’ nails. At the end of our day we gave the kids shirts, shorts, shoes, and skirts. The kids are so grateful for what little they got everyday.
It was very life changing seeing all of the children with no food or shoes. One of the hardest things to do was seeing the kids watching us eat our food. Another thing that bothered us was when we got huge meals and the kids got small meals. We realize that we take so much for granted. I think that now we know how blessed we truly are. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers and for all of the donations you gave us. It’s really great to see how much your donations have blessed the children here in the Dominican. We wouldn’t be able to do this without you! – Hailey and Ben
