Decidedly Academic. Distinctively Christian.

No More Hurting

How can it not still be fresh in our minds?  The excited look of an eight year old boy standing on the sidelines, ready to cheer his father across the finish; for many, it’s an image that will remain for a very long time.  The thought that this third grader’s life would end moments later in a violent explosion is impossible to fully grasp.  How ironic, too, that just three days before Boston’s Marathon, little Martin Richard would pose for a picture holding his hand-made poster that read, “No more hurting people. Peace.”  The poster, created in his classroom last April, followed a lesson dealing with violence and the toll it takes on innocent lives.

Since Martin’s family made this picture known to the general public, it has received media coverage the world over. The innocence and purity of its content has touched many, including our own Foothill Christian School students.  Vina Khoury, an FCS parent, spoke to the students in Mrs. Ashley Holle’s third grade class about Martin’s life and the poster he made.  It was a message that resonated, and to honor Martin’s life and his wish for peace, our 3rd graders created posters with the same words, which are seen in the accompanying photo. Our thoughts and prayers continue to go out to the families and victims whose lives that day were changed forever.

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see what the Lord has done, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shieldswith fire. He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Online giving day is TODAY! We need 100% participation from FCS families to reach our goal. Your student is coming home with a red bracelet on his/her wrist to remind you to go online and give today! Link in profile. 18,000 hearts were glued together in the last 36 hours for one of our exhibit installations! Hats off to our 50+ volunteers who made it happen. This installation captures the beauty of community, a compilation of unique individuals (i.e. hearts) coming together as a whole. We are all made by God, in His image, therefore each and every person is valuable. Imagine if we treated everyone with that in mind!
