Meet the NEW Spanish Teacher

Q&A with Brianna Martindale, Foothill Christian School’s new Spanish Teacher

Editor’s NoteThis is Part I of a two part interview with Brianna Martindale, Foothill Christian School’s new Spanish teacher.  She is taking the place of Senora Nicely, who moved to New York this summer to be closer to family. Welcome Senorita Martindale!

FCS:   To help us with our learning curve, we’d love to know a little about you.  For instance, where did you grow up and where did you attend school?

Miss Martindale: I actually grew up in Glendora. I went to Sutherland Elementary, Goddard Middle School, and Glendora High School. I attended Azusa Pacific where I got my degree in Liberal Studies and I minored in Spanish. Last year, right after I graduated from APU, I moved to Phoenix, Arizona for a year where I taught third grade at a Title I charter school and started graduate school at Arizona State University through the Teach for America program.

FCS: Why did you choose teaching as a career?

Miss Martindale:  I have wanted to be a teacher my entire life, and I come from a family of educators, so I am very blessed that I get to continue my teaching career at Foothill Christian!

FCS:  Is there anything special about teaching a foreign language in a Christian school environment?

Miss Martindale:  I will be teaching middle school Spanish this year. I am very excited to be teaching Spanish at a Christian school because I believe that God can use language learning for such incredible ministry opportunities. I also got a whole new perspective on my faith and the Bible when I was able to first read the Bible in Spanish (because when you translate it directly, there are different nuances between English and Spanish), and I would love to teach my students how to do that and what joy can come from studying the Bible in Spanish.

To be continued…
